Hannon Hill sells Cascade Server. IU bought a site license, tweaked it, and called it WCMS. To actually create stuff you need to load a framework; we're using the just-released (free) IU Framework.
The main documentation for the IU Framework is at https://framework.iu.edu/.
UITS has a "Getting Started with the IU Web Framework" video that has some helpful tips. You can view it at: https://connect.iu.edu/p4w67u7b992/ This video is easiest to view in Chrome browser.
With the IU Framework we can create five kinds of things:
Please do not create folders without asking Raja first. There are a few folders in the web tree that the WCMS doesn't know about; if you create a folder with the same name, the WCMS will destroy the existing folder without remorse.
Also if you create a folder directly under the Base Folder, it will default to showing up in the navigation tabs on every page. You probably don't want to do that.
By and large you should feel free to add pages. Please note that pages you create will show up in the left-side navigation by default.
How do you limit who can see a page? Short answer: Ask Raja. Long answer: You generally can't limit access to an individual page; you need to create a folder, and insert a .htaccess file to limit access to every page in that folder. Raja can do that for you.
Michael and Raja have it mostly figured out, but there are some annoying puzzles remaining. See Notes on news.
For example, announcements of a conference.
Events take up a lot of space on the page and I don't know if we'll be using them soon.
These are a straightforward way to create simple biographies for staff members.
