In 2019 IU learned of a coding logic issue associated with the codifying of self-reported race/ethnicity data in the human resources reporting systems, which effected the way non-resident aliens, Hispanic/Latino, and “two or more races” were being identified. The coding logic has been fixed and now appropriately reflects the federal guidelines for reporting race/ethnicity.
Because of this logic update, IU's fall 2019 HR ethnicity counts, particularly nonresident aliens, will change significantly compared to the fall 2018 numbers. Dependent on the campus, non-resident alien counts increased between 1 to 434 employees. It is important to note that these issue only applied to faculty and staff reporting; coding of student data was not impacted.

Note: Beginning January 2020, the historical census views will be recast to use the new 2019 logic.
